KA HOKU farms
A 2020 vision

Our vision of KA HOKU farms is to create a sustainable land with an abundant organic food forest and farm while reducing our collective carbon footprint and positively contributing towards the food ecosystem of the islands and community.
Ohana
KA HOKU farms will be a private sanctuary for our family, our children, their families, and of course our friends. A place to contribute and work together to develop and enrich the land for food production and sharing, with the intention of continuation for generations to come.

A place to connect to the aina, breathe fresh air & live simply.
Aina (land)
Seeking agriculture land on the Big Island of Hawai’i (Captain Cook to Hawi to the Hamakua Coast). Minimum 1 acre (preferably 5, up to 100) with at least one small structure. Rustic with opportunity to enhance is preferred.
Share & Nourish
In this remote island chain, despite a year-round growing season, just 10 percent of the food supply is grown and produced locally. The rest arrives on huge container ships. Studies have estimated there's only an 11-day supply of food in the state at any given time. The Sustainable Hawai‘i Initiative is a multi-agency effort with the goal to achieve a more resilient and sustainable island earth.
Agriculture development is essential for a strong food system & to help decrease the dependence on imports. Small plot commercial farming & being able to share with the community and contribute to the local economy is a key priority for KA HOKU farms. We want to be part of the solution. Some ideas for distribution are CSA boxes, farmers markets, food banks, health food stores, restaurants and the local grocers.
Grow
What will we grow? We’re not sure yet. There are a number of factors including land location, soil, elevation, rainfall, etc. But we are certain whatever we grow there will be a wonderful assortment of organic tropical trees, fruits, veggies and other delights.
Sustainable Living
The dwellings & agriculture structures at KA HOKU farms are intended to be simple, minimal, sustainable, functional and supportive of the farm development. Power & water sources are dependent on the land, and potentially off-grid living.
Learn
At KA HOKU farms, we are committed to continuing our education and are currently exploring the Tropical Agriculture program at Go Farm Hawaii, a division of University of HI.
Restore
Envision the farm to be a peaceful private sanctuary for family and friends to visit throughout the year. Whether spending time to help with the farmland and structures development, or during periods of soul restoration need, we hope all who visit will feel refreshed, connected to the earth and with their spiritual tank refilled.

Imagine a relaxing, rejuvenating place of abundant growth, renewal & creation
